Levent Yılmaz (d. 1969, Ankara) tarihçi, şair ve yayıncıdır. Doktorasını 2002'de Paris'te EHESS'te, François Hartog'un danışmanlığında, Eskiler ile Modernler Kavgası üzerine yazdığı teziyle tamamladı (jüri: Roger Chartier, Marcel Gauchet, Françoise Waquet, Quentin Skinner). Tez, Le temps moderne adıyla Gallimard'dan yayımlandı (2004).
İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi'nde Tarih Bölümü başkanlığı yaptı; Koç Üniversitesi'nde profesör ve AKMED direktörü, Bilkent'te ve Paris Nanterre'de profesör olarak çalıştı. Collège de France'ta Patrick Boucheron'un davetiyle dört ders verdi (2018); Villa I Tatti (Harvard), EHESS, EUI, Paris IAS ve NYU'da araştırmacı olarak bulundu. Erken modern Avrupa tarihyazımı ve Giambattista Vico üzerine çalışıyor.
Yedi şiir kitabı yayımladı; Paris'te Galaade Éditions'u, İstanbul'da Helikopter Kitaplar'ı kurdu; Actes Sud'ün «lettres turques» dizisini yönetti. Yeats, Petrarca, Baudelaire, Bonnefoy ve Pavese'den çeviriler yaptı. 2022'den beri kurucusu olduğu HECAS'ın direktörüdür. Ayvalık'ta yaşıyor.
Levent Yılmaz (b. 1969, Ankara) is a historian, poet and publisher. He received his Ph.D. from the EHESS, Paris, in 2002, under the supervision of François Hartog, with a dissertation on the Quarrel of the Ancients and the Moderns (committee: Roger Chartier, Marcel Gauchet, Françoise Waquet, Quentin Skinner), published by Gallimard as Le temps moderne (2004).
He chaired the History Department at İstanbul Bilgi University; was Full Professor at Koç University, where he directed AKMED, and Professor at Bilkent and at the University of Paris Nanterre. He gave four public lectures at the Collège de France at the invitation of Patrick Boucheron (2018), and held fellowships at Villa I Tatti (Harvard), the EHESS, the EUI, the Paris Institute for Advanced Study and NYU. His work concerns early modern European historiography and Giambattista Vico.
He has published seven books of poetry; founded Galaade Éditions in Paris and Helikopter Books in Istanbul, and directed the «lettres turques» series at Actes Sud. He has translated Yeats, Petrarch, Baudelaire, Bonnefoy and Pavese. Since 2022 he is co-founder and director of HECAS. He lives in Ayvalık.
Levent Yılmaz (né en 1969 à Ankara) est historien, poète et éditeur. Docteur de l'EHESS (2002), sous la direction de François Hartog, avec une thèse sur la Querelle des Anciens et des Modernes (jury : Roger Chartier, Marcel Gauchet, Françoise Waquet, Quentin Skinner), publiée chez Gallimard sous le titre Le temps moderne (2004).
Il a dirigé le département d'histoire de l'université Bilgi d'Istanbul ; professeur à l'université Koç (directeur de l'AKMED), à Bilkent et à l'université Paris Nanterre. Professeur invité au Collège de France à l'invitation de Patrick Boucheron (2018), il a été fellow à la Villa I Tatti (Harvard), à l'EHESS, à l'IUE de Florence, à l'Institut d'études avancées de Paris et à NYU. Ses travaux portent sur l'historiographie européenne de la première modernité et sur Giambattista Vico.
Auteur de sept recueils de poèmes, il a fondé les éditions Galaade à Paris et Helikopter à Istanbul, et dirigé la collection « lettres turques » chez Actes Sud. Il a traduit Yeats, Pétrarque, Baudelaire, Bonnefoy et Pavese. Depuis 2022, il est cofondateur et directeur de HECAS. Il vit à Ayvalık.
